Steve AverbachSteve Averbach z"l - Honory Vice President in perpetuity 
43 years old, was married with four children. After making Aliyah in 1982 from the States, Steve served in the Israeli army in the Golani special force unit. As a policeman, he was part of a S.W.A.T team called Yassam and later on was a weapon and defence instructor in Jerusalem. Steve was injured on May 18, 2003 in a terrorist act in Jerusalem as a result of which he remained a quadriplegic. Lived in Tel Aviv with his family and was in addition to being Vice President , the TIKVOT spokesman. His goal was to help adults and children who are victims of terror rehabilitate their lives through sport.

Ehud EdelmanEhud Edelman - Co Founder
Ehud Edelman, born in Israel in 1945, married to Netta + three children.  For many years has been involved in philanthropic causes. The last ten years has served as General Manager of a South African company in Israel, Beck Tech, which is Jerusalem's number one Science Center.


Vic EssakowVic Essakow - Co Founder
Vic was born in Krugersdorp, South Africa; Vic made Aliya in 1976 with his wife Dolores and 3 children Jonnie, Sandy and Sue; Vic was involved in sport throughout his school and university career and was the South African Javelin champion and record holder. Vic has always believed that a Healthy Body creates a Healthy Mind and this is the basis of what TIKVOT is aiming to achieve; Rehabilitation of Body and Mind through sport

Rocky MuravitzMervin (Rocky) Muravitz - Co Founder
Born in South Africa, Rocky made Aliya in 1977 with wife, Vera and two children, Simone and Gilad. From an early age he was involved in Sports Administration. As an ardent Zionist, Rocky served on several Zionist and Jewish Organizations and lead the March in Durban protesting the UN resolution equating Zionism to Racism.
As a firm believer in the medium of Sport as a tool for life enhancement skills, Rocky Co- Founded TIKVOT. He is involved with terror victims and soldiers from the time of their hospitalization, and is the main fundraiser of TIKVOT.

Jeffrey ElabaumDr. Jeffrey Elbaum - International Vice President
Jeffrey is married to Florence and they have 4 children, Danielle, Karen, Sam and Morris
He is the managing partner of Elbaum, Krost, Elbaum Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in New Jersey, USA and has served on the board of Organizations benefitting Terror Victims for the past 5 years
Jeffrey has assisted in raising in excess of $1,000,000 for terror victims and wounded soldiers.

Jeffrey EssakowJeffrey Essakow - International Vice President
Jeffrey Essakow, born in South Africa. Presently resident in San Diego, California, Is the Chairman President and Co-Founder of the Challenged Athletes Foundation, an organization founded 10 years ago to assist challenged athletes get back in the game through sports.
In 2003 the idea of rehabilitating terror victims through sports in Israel was conceived and he co-founded together with Rocky Muravitz and Victor Essakow the concept which eventually resulted in TIKVOT being formed.

Alister RoganAlister Rogan - International Vice President
After matriculating he entered Articles of Clerkship with a Johannesburg firm of Chartered Accountants and studied at Wits University. Once qualified Allister spent two years in Edinburgh gaining experience and then returned to his firm in Johannesburg where he was a Partner for 25 years. In 1985 he joined one of his clients, the late Graham Beck, as Financial Director and to this day he still holds this position. He acts as Chairman and Director to a number of Companies and Foundations Over the years he has devoted a lot of time and energy to educational and religious institutions helping with financial administration, planning and fund raising. In his spare time he enjoys classical music, golf and fly fishing. He is happily married to Jenny, and has 4 children and 9 grand children.

Miranda and Phillip KaiserMiranda and Phillip Kaiser - International Vice President
Philip was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1967.  After graduating high school in 1985, Philip attended the Hebrew University in Jerusalem for one year before making Aliya and serving in the IDF as an airborne combat soldier in the Nachal brigade.  Following his release from the army, Philip returned to the Hebrew University to complete a B. A. in Political Science and multi-discipline studies.  During this time he married his wife Miranda in 1993.  In 2002 he moved his family to Tulsa and opened “Cosmo Café”.  They have three sons:  Shai, Eytan and Ilan.

Philip became involved with Tikvot after his friend, Steve Averbach, was rendered quadriplegic while attempting to thwart a suicide bomber on a Jerusalem bus in 2003.

Peggy SarlinPeggy Sarlin – American Friends of TIKVOT + Honorary Secratary
Peggy Sarlin is a New York-based scriptwriter for some of the best children's television shows on Disney, Nickelodon and PBS. She also writes scripts for NASA, the British Museum and the Smithsonian. Peggy has a special interest in good health, and just published Awakening from Alzheimer's: How 9 Maverick Doctors are Reversing Alzheimer's, Dementia and Memory Loss, which is available at www.memorybreakthroughs.com. As chair of her synagogue's Israel Committee, Peggy has enthusiastically volunteered for Tikvot since its beginning.

Armel Leslie is a Principal at Walek & Associates, a global boutique financial and corporate PR agency headquartered in New York. He is a member of the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA) and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). A native of South Africa, Armel studied business management at the University of South Africa, Johannesburg, and graduated cum laude with a BA in History from Baruch College, City University of New York where he also started his career as a Public Relations Officer.

Alon is an advocate and lives in Ganei Tikva with his wife and 2 children. He has his own law firm which specializes in Insurance and Real Estate in Israel and abroad.
He is currently representing terror victims in a law suit filed against the Arab Bank in the States.

The power of exercise by engaging in various sporting activities, is the mantra that Ora believes in, in order to create a healthy body and a healthy mind.

Ora who was born in Cape Town, South Africa, is following in her family's footsteps, by volunteering to rehabilitate Israeli soldiers, who have paid a very heavy price in safegaurding our little land of Israel

Dr. Michelle Weber-Hadad - Business Development

Michelle is a Professor of Organizational Psychology and Management at Columbia University and Fordham University’s Graduate School of Business in New York City and is also the owner of Mali Michelle Fine Jewelry. Since 1982 (War for the Peace of the Galilee) she and her parents have opened their homes and raised funds for “Nechai Tzahal” (wounded IDF soldiers). Recently, her love of sports lead her to volunteer with Tikvot’s indoor mountain climbing activities and, according to her, “I was instantaneously hooked!”.  With a strong belief in the power of sports to rehabilitate both physically and emotionally, she is excited to be working on raising awareness of Tikvot’s work. 


Simone FarbsteinSimone Farbstein – Director
Simone has three beautiful daughters, Nitzan, Shaked and Ela , who follow the family motto of helping others and dedicate much time and care in rehabilitating our brave heroes

Simone believes in elevating ones ability, no matter what disability one has, as they are all winners. One needs to find the correct sport activity to direct their energy and skills to, and then success will come.
